Fleet Foreman Summary Description JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Fleet Manager, the Fleet Foreman oversees the daily operations of the Fleet Department, ensuring the efficient maintenance and repair of the Town’s fleet vehicles and heavy equipment. This position is responsible for supervising maintenance technicians, coordinating repair schedules, and enforcing safety protocols to maintain a high standard of fleet reliability. The Fleet Foreman plays a key role in troubleshooting mechanical issues, managing fleet maintenance records, and assisting with policy development. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by education from a commercial, technical, or trade school.
- Minimum of three years of experience in vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Experience in automotive parts ordering and inventory management, with some exposure to industrial parts.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- Must obtain a Class A CDL driver’s license within six (6) months of employment.
- Possess at least four current ASE certifications in Automotive or Heavy-Duty Truck (or a combination of both) or have the ability to obtain them within one year.
- Must acquire State Vehicle Inspection Certification within one year of employment.
- Obtain Master ASE Certification in Automotive or Heavy Truck within two years of employment.
- EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or local business community members.
- Must have good people skills to communicate effectively with city staff, supervisors, the public, and vendors.

- Ability to implement cost-effective maintenance and repair solutions to optimize fleet performance.
- Experience in providing hands-on technical and safety training to staff members.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise, delegate, and oversee assigned personnel effectively.
- Capable of addressing and resolving customer concerns with professionalism and efficiency.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (80) eighty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment for this position includes both office and outdoor settings, with exposure to conditions commonly associated with vehicle maintenance. This may involve loud noises, dust, heavy machinery, and equipment. The role also requires working in various weather conditions and potential exposure to traffic, moving vehicles, slippery surfaces, and other field-related hazards. The work schedule may include after-hours, weekends, and holidays, with the expectation to respond to emergencies as needed. Rotating and on-call duty may be required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Oversee the maintenance and repair operations of the Town’s fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Supervise and provide guidance to assigned Fleet Department personnel.
- Assist in planning and scheduling vehicle repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
- Establish work priorities, set goals, and develop objectives and schedules for staff.
- Assign, review, and inspect work performed by Fleet Technicians to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Support technicians in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic issues.
- Enforce occupational safety and health regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Notify the Fleet Manager of major repair needs and budgetary considerations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of division policies and procedures.
- Participate in the hiring, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary processes for employees.
- Manage and oversee fleet-related software systems, including Fleet, Fuel, Fuel Cards, and Telematics.
- Serve as acting Fleet Manager in their absence to ensure continuity of operations.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating fleet vehicle auctions.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing concerns and providing timely solutions.
