JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to assist with drainage maintenance work for the town. Employees in this class exercise appropriate safety precautions in operating assigned equipment to ensure personal, public, and personnel safety. Position is responsible working independently or as part of a work crew, depending on nature of assigned tasks to construct, repair and maintain the Town’s curbs, gutters, inlets, outfalls, debris-separators, storm-water, manholes, ditches, drainage systems, and other related public infrastructure. Performs related work as directed. The candidate must be highly motivated and strive for success by demonstrating Little Elm’s Core Values of Integrity, Customer Service, Efficiency, and Innovation.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED

Six (6) months of previous experience that demonstrates ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the essential functions; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Must be bondable.
  2. Must obtain a Class “A” Texas Commercial Driver’s License within 6-months of date of hire.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and community.
  3. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines, drive vehicles and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (80) eighty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Outdoor environment; exposure to conditions of construction and Public Works project sites including loud noises, dust, heavy vehicles and equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to traffic and other hazards while conducting field inspections; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Cleans, repairs, and maintains curbs, gutters, inlets, outfalls, debris-separators, storm-water, manholes, ditches, drainage systems, and other related public infrastructure.
  2. Operates, repairs, and maintains various equipment, vehicles, and tools such as tractors, mowers, street sweepers, bucket trucks, augers, jackhammers, rollers, dump trucks, skill saws, drills, bolt cutters, and other 1 ton to 5 ton vehicles, etc.
  3. Operates various tools and equipment to clean storm-water structures; lay pipelines and repair manholes; cut brush and mow high grass and weeds; picks up litter and debris; cleans in and around storm-water structures.
  4. Works safely when working in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic areas; along medians, right of ways.
  5. Loads and unloads supplies, equipment, and tools, etc., on and off of vehicles and equipment.
  6. Utilizes various manual, gas, and hand held tools and equipment in maintenance and repair tasks, i.e., shovels, rakes, brooms, saws, hammers, wrenches.

 

  1. Prepares assigned equipment for safe and efficient operating condition by inspecting prior to and after use.
  2. Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, inquiries of the general public, and the status of work activities.
  3. Conducts daily inspections and preventative maintenance measures of vehicles, equipment, and tools such as checking fluid levels, cleaning, checking safe and proper operation, and servicing.
  4. Adheres to departmental, personnel and safety rules and regulations.
  5. Sets up secure work zones using cones and barricades to ensure public safety at all times and participates in traffic control activities.
