JOB SUMMARY
The Small Engine Technician performs specialized journeymen-level maintenance and repair of all equipment utilized to maintain greenbelts, ball fields and other grassy or recreational areas. The selected candidate is required to provide basic hand tools typical of a technician with five years’ experience in the automotive or equipment repair industry. This will be determined by the Fleet Manager. He or she will be responsible for maintaining equipment inventory and equipment maintenance records.
 
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
1.            Trained in the use of a variety of machines, including, but not limited to, personal computers, telephone, calculators,      facsimile machine and copiers, on line service manuals as well as paper service manuals.
2.            Must be familiar with basic automotive shop diagnostic tools; measuring tools; micrometers, calipers, digital multi meter, welder and cutting torch.
3.            Graduate of a certified trade school or five (5) years’ experience in the automotive or equipment repair industry.
4.            Must be familiar with and utilize shop safety measures.
5.            Must have a high school diploma or GED.
6.            Must have some experience in landscape equipment parts ordering and stocking.
7.            Preferences will be given to those candidates with specific turf equipment factory training and verifiable experience.
8.            Should be proficient in MIG and Shielded Metal Arc welding techniques as well as metal cutting and fabricating.
 
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
1.            Must be bondable.
2.            Valid Texas Driver’s License.

1.            Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
2.            Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and community.
3.            Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (80) eighty pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Primarily automobile/equipment repair facility environment. Shop conditions; outdoor environment; exposure to conditions of vehicle maintenance; including loud noises, dust, heavy vehicles and equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to traffic and other hazards while conducting field inspections and repairs; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.          Performs extensive preventive maintenance and repairs on all makes and models such as TORO, John Deere, Stihl, etc…
2.            Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic brake malfunctions as well as replacing wear parts.
3.            Maintains records of time and material used on the job, documents equipment condition and status, updates any changes and submits log as required, informs supervisor of materials needed to perform a job.
4.            Responsible for maintenance and repair of small engines, both gas and diesel, including hydraulic equipment.
5.            Responsible for sharpening or replacing mower blades, chainsaw chains and other wear related items. All types of landscape maintenance equipment.
6.            Maintains inventory records on repairs made, parts ordered, and parts inventory.
7.            May be required to work special events that happen outside of the normal work schedule.
8.            Performs other duties as required.
