JOB SUMMARY

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and related management team, the purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of customers in and around pool areas. This is accomplished by visually scanning pool areas, identifying distressed swimmers, performing in-water rescues and assists as necessary, completing CPR when appropriate and providing first aid care to customers. Other duties may include providing customer service support and interfacing with other Town employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees. The candidate must be highly motivated and strive for success by demonstrating Little Elm’s Core Values of Integrity, Customer Service, Efficiency, and Innovation.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 16 years old and no lifeguarding experience required.  Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.

 

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
1.             Must be able to obtain an American Red Cross Lifeguard & First Aid Certifications within the first two weeks of employment.
2.             Must be able to obtain an American Red Cross CPR/Professional Rescuer w/AED Certification within the first two weeks of employment.
3.             Valid Texas Driver’s License or transportation to and from work.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.

 

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

  1. Knowledge of customer service practices and procedures.
  2. Knowledge of Town policies and procedures.
  3. Skill in oral and written communications.
  4. Skill in monitoring departmental health and safety policies and procedures.
  5. Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.
  6. Skill in implementing departmental rule, procedures and objectives.
  7. Skill in interacting with all age groups.
  8. Performs CPR, Rescue Breathing and First Aid as needed.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  10. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Ability to comprehend complex policies, procedures, regulations, and organizational structures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Primarily outside environment.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS   

1. Ensures the safety of swimmers by visually scanning all areas of the aquatic facility, determining whether customers are in distress, performing in-water rescues and assists when necessary, providing first aid to customers when appropriate and completing CPR for rescued customers when necessary.

2. Provides customer service by offering assistance to customers, responding to customer inquiries, addressing customer concerns or problems, educating customers on facility rules and procedures and directing customers to appropriate the persons or areas.

3. May act as a water safety instructor if certified as such by the American Red Cross.
