Description

JOB SUMMARY

Provides on-site supervision of participants and general spectators, customer service, and record keeping of sport leagues and athletic special events. Assists with selling softballs for adult slow pitch softball leagues. Work is performed under general supervision. The candidate must be highly motivated and strive for success by demonstrating Little Elm’s Core Values of Integrity, Customer Service, Efficiency, and Innovation.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Some experience and general knowledge of sports setting preferred.

Six (6) months related experience demonstrating a proven history of customer service preferred.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Must possess current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within three months from date of employment.
  2. Valid, Class "C" Texas Driving License

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and players, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.

 

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  2. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  3. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  4. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  5. Ability to effectively interact with the public and all levels of employees; ability to present a "positive image" of the Town at all times.
  6. Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of the English language and be able to read, write and understand both written and oral communications.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  8. Ability to fulfill requests or otherwise provide services, accurate information or assistance in a courteous and timely manner without complaining.
  9. Ability to actively listen and demonstrate competence and interest to the general public, citizens, and co-workers.
  10. Knowledge of safety procedures and practices.
  11. Knowledge of sports and sports rules including softball, basketball, and flag football.
  12. Knowledge of score keeping and organization of recreation and athletic programs.
  13. Ability to operate a telephone, rulebooks, bat tester, score board controller, rake, chalk liner, and hand tamp.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Primarily outdoor environment with some work indoors.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

        1. Regular and timely attendance at work.
        2. Monitor the activities of contracted officials, participants/players, and volunteers.
        3. Inform players of rules concerning dress, conduct, or equipment and enforce rules; ejects unruly player or unauthorized persons as necessary.
        4. Provide assistance and information to participants, spectators, umpires, and citizens regarding recreation programs and parks.
        5. Document disputes, fights, ejections, and disturbances.
        6. Readily accessible and identifiable during athletic games.
        7. Settle disputes between groups or individual players regarding use of facilities and/or other issues.
        8. Responsible for turning on and off lights; ensuring the fields are unlocked and locked; hooking up scoreboard controllers; distributing and collecting evaluations.
        9. Collect scores at the conclusion of each game and place in the locked box at the fields.
        10. Assist in the positive promotion of Little Elm softball and other athletic programs through word of mouth.
        11. Sweep facilities, pick up litter, dump trash, and perform other manual tasks as necessary for up-keep.
        12. Possible maintenance to softball fields such as watering, tamping, raking infields, etc., as well as chalk lining foul lines.
        13. Patrol facilities to detect damage to facilities and report damages to appropriate authority.
        14. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
        15. Sell and collect money for league approved softballs.
        16. Complete other duties as assigned.
