JOB SUMMARY
Under direct supervision of the Special Events & Programs Manager and related management team, performs duties as assigned in Parks & Recreation.  To include departments:  Special Events, Recreation Programming, Facility Operations and Parks Maintenance.
 
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
 
  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Must be currently enrolled in a college level intern program, seeking degree in related field.
 
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
 
  1. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check and post-offer physical agility exam.
  2. Valid Texas Operator’s Driver’s License.
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
 
  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Skill in effective oral and written communications.
  3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.
  4. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.
 
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
1.            Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
2.            Self-motivated.
3.            Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisor and other personnel.
4.            Demonstrate a willingness to perform duties in a team environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT             
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Office environment, to also include field work such as Special Events and Parks Maintenance.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  
 
  1. Meet requirements of internship.
  2. Provides customer service to all participants in activities and programs at area of assignment.
  3. Responds to inquiries related to programs, services and special events.
  4. Plans, coordinates and evaluates special events and recreational programs.
  5. Administers general maintenance and routine cleaning of facilities and equipment.
  6. Assists in preparing departmental marketing and promotional initiatives.
  7. Recruits event sponsors from area businesses
  8. Recruits and works with volunteers
  9. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with vendors, area businesses, and other agencies
  10. Checks out equipment; and perform light maintenance on equipment as needed.
  11. Answers and transfers calls in a timely and professional manner.
  12. Picks up and removes trash from beaches, parks, greenbelts, creeks, drainage areas, ponds, right-of-ways, and/or other open spaces.
  13. Inspects assigned areas, corrects and/or reports safety hazards.
  14. Operates a variety of hand and power tools, edgers, blowers, hedge trimmers, chain saws. Rakes, shovels, hoes, brooms and other tools.  Drives a variety of trucks and other vehicles.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
