Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

Under direct supervision, operates various solid waste collection equipment and vehicles to properly haul and dispose of sludge generated by the Little Elm Waste Water Treatment Plant and Municipal Solid Waste collected at the Little Elm Courtesy Bulk Drop Site. In addition the employee will be required to work at the Town’s Courtesy Bulk Drop Site (CBDS), which includes nights and weekends as well as duties as assigned. The candidate must be highly motivated and strive for success by demonstrating Little Elm’s Core Values of Integrity, Customer Service, Efficiency, and Innovation.

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

 

High School Diploma/GED

Recommend three (3) years of roll-off truck driving experience or successfully complete roll-off driver training with an approved MSW Vendor within two months of hire date.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

 

  1. Must be bondable.
  2. Texas Driver’s License – Class A Commercial Driver’s License (“CDL”)

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.
  3. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.

  1. Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
  2. Use tact and diplomacy with public, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

  12. Skilled in the use of a variety of power tools, heavy and light equipment, including, but not limited to heavy excavation equipment, backpack blowers, weed eaters, chainsaws and hand held radios.

The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (80) eighty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Outdoor environment; exposure to conditions of construction and Public Works project sites including loud noises, dust, heavy vehicles and equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to traffic and other hazards while conducting field inspections; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Promptly prepares for daily operations and drives roll-off collection trucks safe and efficiently.
  2. Loads and unloads roll-off containers in a landfill and/or transfer station environment.
  3. Ability to cover loads using manual and automated tarping systems.
  4. Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, inquiries of the general public, and the status of work activities.
  5. Informs supervisor of potential CBDS hazards, problem areas, citizen inquires, and all work activities.
  6. Conducts daily pre-trip inspections and preventative maintenance measures of roll-off vehicles, equipment, and tools such as checking fluid levels, cleaning, checking safe and proper operation, and servicing.
  7. Adheres to departmental, personnel and safety rules and regulations.
  8. Follow Federal, State and Local traffic laws, mandates and regulations.
  9. Performs gate attendant operations at the CBDS
  10. Completes reports on customer usage, vendor work and hours of operation.
  11. Keeps CBDS clean and free of debris, and facility in safe operating condition.
  12. Must maintain great customer service relations.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
