Title:Recreation and Aquatics Coordinator

Salary Range:18.28
Under the direction of the Special Events and Programs Manager, plans, creates, develops and implements recreational, aquatics, social and informational programs, services, and activities for all ages and interests in the community.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, leisure studies, physical education, public administration, business administration, or related field preferred. Two years of recreation program administration experience including some administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
  1. Must possess current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within three months from date of employment.
  2. Must have or obtain Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor within 6 months
  3. Must be bondable.
  4. Valid Texas Drivers License
  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.

  3. Demonstrate a willingness to perform duties in a team environment.
  4. Ability to collect, analyze and present data in report form.
  5. Knowledge and skill in the use of a computer; prefer experience with Microsoft office.
  6. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, customers, staff and city administration.
  7. Skills coordinating and managing multiple projects and/or assignments.
  8. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, customers of the Recreation Center.
  9. Ability to plan, coordinate, organize and supervise the activities and programs related to Recreation Center.
  10. Extensive knowledge of recreational programming and skills in promoting recreational facilities.
  11. Possession of excellent interpersonal skills with customers from various backgrounds, staff and city administration.
  12. Ability to understand and adhere to personnel and purchasing policies as well as accounting principles.
  13. Ability to schedule and coordinate the work of others.
  14. Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.
  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Ability to comprehend complex policies, procedures, regulations, and organizational structures.
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Primarily office environment with some work being done outside, depending on program.
  1. Creates, plans, develops, implements and evaluates recreational programs and services based on surveys and assessment of needs and interests of community participants.
  2. Directly oversees aquatics learn to swim program.
  3. Works closely with Home Owners Associations (HOA) where swim lessons are held.
  4. Supervises seasonal staff for aquatics program.
  5. Recruits, trains, oversees, coordinates, schedules and evaluates assigned staff, contracted instructors and volunteers.
  6. Responds to and resolves customer complaints, questions and suggestions related to the Recreation Division programs, activities, services and special events.
  7. Plans, coordinates and evaluates special events and recreational programs.
  8. Assists in hiring, training, evaluating, scheduling, and supervising part-time recreation center staff.
  9. Assists in evaluating and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the efficiency and productivity of the recreation center and its programs.
  10. Assists in creating and managing budget for related area.
  11. Interacts with public and staff on a daily basis; an answer inquires, resolves complaints, grievances, emergencies and assist patrons as needed.
  12. Assists in coordinating and implementing financial management functions.
  13. Monitors and schedules activities at the Recreation Center and enforce safety policies.
  14. Checks out equipment; and perform light maintenance on equipment as needed.
  15. Performs facility opening and/or closing procedures.
  16. Administers general maintenance and routine cleaning of facilities and equipment.
  17. Assists in preparing departmental marketing and promotional initiatives.
  18. Recruits event sponsors from area businesses
  19. Recruits and works with volunteers
  20. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with vendors, area businesses, and other agencies
