JOB SUMMARY

The Town of Little Elm is seeking a detail-oriented, motivated, and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Court Clerk. This position performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of the Municipal Court, under the direction of the Court Administrator. The Court Clerk will have frequent interaction with the public both in person and over the phone, providing assistance regarding citations, complaints, and other court-related matters. Responsibilities include receiving and recording payments for court fees and fines, preparing and routing court documents, and ensuring accurate filing and record-keeping. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is organized, thorough, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

  1. High School diploma or equivalent. 
  2. Two (2) years relevant experience in Municipal Court or other related field
  3. At least two (2) years of verifiable cash handling experience

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS                  

  1. Processes and enters traffic, parking, penal code, and city ordinance violations into the court system.
  2. Accepts and records payments for court fines, bonds, defensive driving certificates, and driving records.
  3. Accounts for and reconciles daily court collections; prepares and submits daily deposits.
  4. Assists in the preparation of court dockets and the issuance of juror summonses, witness notifications, and officer subpoenas.
  5. Schedules court cases for hearings, arraignments, pre-trials, and judge and jury trials.
  6. Performs general office duties including filing, data entry, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
  7. Responds to inquiries from the public, attorneys, litigants, and law enforcement or state agencies in person and via phone.
  8. Performs courtroom clerical duties during hearings, arraignments, and trials, including case processing and documentation.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Must be bondable.
  2. Prefer Municipal Court Clerk Level 1 Certification.
  3. Must obtain Municipal Court Clerk Level 1 certification within 18 months.
  4. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. 
  2. Bilingual preferred, not required.
  3. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.

  6. Possesses a thorough knowledge of municipal court practices and procedures, with an emphasis on ethical conduct and discretion.
  7. Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Demonstrates strong organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and manage multiple projects or assignments simultaneously.
  9. Is detail-oriented and thorough in the processing and disposition of court cases and records.
  10. Possesses basic computer proficiency, including the use of PC-based applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  11. Performs a variety of administrative and clerical (ministerial) duties as assigned, such as case documentation, data entry, and docket preparation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
