JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Emergency Management Coordinator, performs work assisting with the coordination and direction of the emergency management program. Work involves assisting in developing and coordinating plans for emergency and disaster response preparedness, training, and operations. Responsible for assisting the Emergency Management Coordinator in conducting and coordinating various all-hazards planning exercises and preparing and submitting various reports and records as required by state and federal agencies. Assists in maintaining and updating Emergency Management SOPs, Emergency Operations, and Policies and Procedures documents.
This position is designed for an undergraduate degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, or a related field. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in working in Emergency Management. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Undergraduate degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, or Public Administration program required.
- Completing introductory FEMA ICS courses (100, 200, 700, 800, 2200) preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- Must be bondable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from citizens, regulatory agencies or authorities, and local business community members.
OTHER SKILLS ABILITIES
- Ability to establish and meet deadlines.

- Reliable and able to work independently on a task.
- Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisors and other personnel.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to research information and prepare reports and other correspondence; experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel, and Google word processing applications (Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, 40 pounds frequently, and 25 pounds constantly. Must possess the visual acuity to perform computer work and extensive reading. Subject to hazards of emergency scenes, including working in both inside and outside environments, including all types of weather conditions and other adverse conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described herein represent those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The job is primarily an office environment; however, it also incorporates a field environment where you may experience dangerous environments, including, but not limited to, varying extremes of atmospheric conditions. Position hours may require traditional and non-traditional working hours, including weekends, holidays, and extended evening hours.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide technical and administrative assistance in emergency preparedness and planning projects.
- Assisting staff in the day-to-day operations within the Emergency Management office; answering inquiries by phone and through written communications; preparing documents and reports; assisting with research assignments and special projects; attending meetings or community events; filing, faxing, photocopying, etc.
- Prepare emergency management plans and documents as required by state law.
- Research and prepare grant proposals for available funding for new and continuing programs and projects. Maintain files of grant sources and supporting data.
- Create and implement education programs to inform the public of proper response to emergencies and various services of emergency management programs.
- Complete reports and maintain records for the Emergency Management Coordinator.
- Assist fire department personnel and emergency management officials as required.
- Perform other related work as required or assigned.
- Minimum 15-20 hours per week for three or more months (6 months preferred).
