PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

The Assistant Aquatics Technician provides assistance with maintenance at The Cove at the Lakefront™ and The Town of Little Elm Splash Pad. This position assists with commercial pool equipment, water chemistry, as well as install and repair. This position also assists with general facility maintenance to ensure a clean and safe environment.

The Aquatics Technician will work in a year-round indoor aquatic park with a retractable roof, as well as with a seasonal, outdoor splash pad. Additionally, this position has the opportunity to work in a growing and diverse community. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Assists with ensuring proper functionality of The Cove at The Lakefront™, including general and preventative maintenance and cleanliness of the facility; performs daily inspections to ensure all equipment is clean and in excellent working condition.
  2. Monitors, troubleshoots, and performs skilled repairs and general maintenance on aquatic features, including, but not limited to, chemical systems, pumps and motors, circulation systems, heaters, play features, pool and deck lighting, slides, indoor surf machine, OpenAire retractable roof, concrete, tile, and plaster.
  3. Repairs, paints, modifies, constructs, fabricates, and installs facility structures, equipment, and furniture.
  4. Safely resolves maintenance and repair issues in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner, according to industry standards, and according to relevant manufacturers’ specifications.
  5. Ensures that work orders are completed in a timely manner.
  6. Develops and maintains schedules of routine and preventative maintenance and replacement of aquatic equipment; adheres to ride/attraction manufacturers’ preventative maintenance programs.
  7. Maintains documentation including maintenance records and other reports as required.
  8. Cleans pool tile and plaster, vacuums pool, skims water surface, and cleans skimmer baskets.
  9. Performs water tests and temperature readings, adjusts water chemistry, and calibrates automation.
  10. Assists with maintenance of the Town of Little Elm Splash Pad.
  11. Monitors inventory of and procures pool, maintenance, and chemical supplies; schedules deliveries.
  12. Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  13. Completes other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

  1. Must be at least 16 years old and have six months basic maintenance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Must possess or have the ability to obtain the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within 90 days from date of employment.
  2. Must be bondable.
  3. Must possess valid Texas Driver’s License.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.

 

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

  1. Knowledge of operation, repair, and maintenance of swimming pools and equipment.
  2. Knowledge of chemical water treatment systems and pool water testing.
  3. Knowledge of plumbing.
  4. Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques.
  5. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of assigned equipment, power, and hand tools.
  6. Knowledge of safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials.
  7. Knowledge occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.
  8. Skilled in working with pool chemicals such as liquid chlorine, muriatic acid, and others.
  9. Skilled in the use of a computer and related software applications.
  10. Ability to identify maintenance issues in an aquatic park and plan and perform necessary repairs. 
  11. Ability to use personal protective equipment.
  12. Ability to perceive the full range of the color spectrum, such as when working with water testing color comparators.
  13. Ability to perform pool cleaning services.
  14. Ability to climb ladders or steps for getting on the roof and into sump pits.
  15. Ability to maintain accurate records.  
  16. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with the public, customers, staff, and Town administration.
  17. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, administration, and customers from varied backgrounds.
  18. Ability to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
  19. Self-motivated and team-oriented.

  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Ability to comprehend complex policies, procedures, regulations, and organizational structures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to eighty (80) pounds and be able to push and pull up to one hundred (100) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT               

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in an office and indoor/outdoor aquatics atmosphere with potential exposure to heavy chemical presence. The Aquatics Technician may be exposed to heat, cold, and temperature swings.
