JOB SUMMARY
Little Elm Public Library serves Little Elm, and the surrounding Denton County communities. Library staff support operations for the main library in Town Hall and a 24-Hour Library kiosk at Fire Station #3 in north Little Elm.
Under supervision of the Circulation Supervisor, the PT Library Assistant performs all processes involved in the circulation of library materials to include check in and out of materials and maintenance of patron records. Additionally, the PT Library Assistant (20 hours) supports programming and performs outreach to support library and town initiatives. Performs all other support functions as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the public by telephone, computer, or in person with basic reference questions.
- Operate library circulation software, and performs library circulation duties including check out, check in and entering patron information, accepting funds.
- Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Plan and execute programs and projects as needed.
- Support outreach and offsite events as needed.
- Provide computer assistance and troubleshooting as needed.
- Sort items in alphabetical and numerical order, including using the Dewey Decimal classification system
- Pick up and re-shelve stray materials and straighten library furnishings.
- Attend periodic support staff meetings and training opportunities.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including turning equipment and computers on/off, counting down the cash drawer, reporting facilities issues to supervising library staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year experience working in a public-facing customer service role.
- Experience working with children and families preferred.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- Must be bondable.
- Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.
- Ability to speak other languages desirable.

The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (25) twenty five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
