JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction of the Director of Community Services, performs professional and administrative duties in planning, developing, implementing, and directing public library services for the Little Elm Public Library.  These duties include budget preparation, evaluation, personnel, collection development, community relations, programming and facility maintenance.

The Library Manager will have an opportunity to work in a community that is one of the fastest growing and most exciting suburbs in the USA. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related filed. Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Services from an American Library Association accredited college or university preferred; five years of professional library experience preferred; supervisory experience preferred.

 

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Must be bondable.
  2. Possess a valid Texas Drivers License.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. 
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.
  3. Ability to speak other languages desirable.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS                  

  1. Develops and manages annual library budget and long-range plan.
  2. Performs collection development duties.
  3. Stay informed of current events and library trends.
  4. Represents the library in professional meetings, classes, conferences, and workshops, locally and nationally.
  5. Applies for appropriate grants and awards.
  6. Promote library services throughout the community.
  7. Oversees all library operations and supervise staff.
  8. Build and maintain relationships with town government, town employees, town departments, schools, organizations, businesses, surrounding communities, and the general public.
  9. Administers maintenance of library facilities and equipment.
  10. The Library Director position requires flexibility with hours worked to cover Library hours and attend meetings         covering, volunteer organizations or any other duties necessary to perform the job.
  11. This position must be able to grow and maintain volunteer services to serve the Library needs.
  12. Assists other departments as needed.
  13. Develops and evaluates policies and procedures for library operations.
  14. Develops and maintains personnel schedules, training and development, and evaluations.
  15. Completes other duties as assigned.

  11. Ability to perform any duties needed in any area of the library as needed.
  12. Ability to speak in front of any size audience to promote library services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (25) twenty-five pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT              

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Primarily office environment with space limitations in a fast-paced atmosphere.
